2024 :

  • Already ranked as France's leading university in the INPI 2023 rankings, UGA remains at the top of the list of French universities in the new INPI 2024 rankings. With 53 patents filed in 2024, it has moved up to 28th place in this annual ranking of the leading patent filers, and is now in 5th place among French public research institutions, behind the CEA (5th), the CNRS (7th) and Inserm (27th).
  • Also worthy of note this year is the entry of its component institution Grenoble INP - UGA, which reached 45th place in the top 50, with 30 patents filed in 2024.

Université Grenoble Alpes ranked 1st European university in innovation by the number of patents filed

In a study on the role of European universities in patent filing and innovation published on October 22, 2024, by the European Patent Office (EPO), Université Grenoble Alpes (UGA) secured the top position among 1,200 institutions, with 3,348 patents filed over a 20-year period from 2000 to 2020.

2023 :

  • Université Grenoble Alpes (UGA) is ranked 29th in the INPI 2023 ranking, with 47 patents filed in 2023, 28 of which were co-filed with its component institution Grenoble INP - UGA. UGA is thus one of the French institutions that invest the most in innovation, and ranks 4th among public research establishments.

2022 :

  • UGA ranks first among French universities in the INPI 2021 ranking of the top patent applicants. With 56 patent applications published in 2021 compared to 40 in 2020, UGA has moved up from 37th to 29th place among French institutions that invest the most in innovation.

2021 :

  • UGA and Grenoble INP-UGA enter the INPI 2020 ranking of the largest patent applicants, respectively 37th and 45th.
